Waltham Forest celebrates Black History Month

Waltham Forest Council is marking Black History Month this October with a month of special events. A host of free activities will be taking place at the borough’s libraries, Vestry House Museum and the William Morris Gallery.

The celebrations will begin at Walthamstow Library on Wednesday 1 October with story telling, a live music performance by Akubu and a Caribbean buffet. Other events taking place during the month will include poetry evenings, writing workshops, story-telling sessions and musical events.

Valley Ward by election called

A by-election to fill the vacant seat in Valley ward will be held on 6 November.

Polling stations will be in South Chingford Library, in Hall Lane, Chingford, Chase Lane Junior School in York Road, Chingford and  the Burnside Centre in Burnside Avenue, Chingford.

The by election has been called following the death of Conservative councillor John Gover last month.

Annual canvass

The Council's Electoral Services Office will publish a new Register of Electors on 1 December 2008. To make sure you are on the Council's new Electoral Register find out more here.
